This week of class I have realized how complex our society
is with coming to an agreement. I have
looked at how natural sciences approach issues as well as social scientists and
even the differences within these disciplines.
It is interesting to see the different areas of emphasis or places that
different scientists find more important than others. As I am getting further along in my
undergraduate career I am realizing I have a different focus and take on some
issues than my peers in another majors have.
When investigating the policy document I found it so interesting how
vague some areas were with the brackets of word choice. I would be interested to see how the policy
negotiation plays out and if even individual words could cause some problems on
agreeing on implementation. I am
starting to see the difficulties in trying to translate natural science ideas
as well as social science views into policy for everyone, especially a
universally binding agreement. Even
within fields there is disagreeing among focuses that makes it more difficult
to come to agreements. With all the
wordings I saw in the policy packet I got a look at how important it is to get
everyone on board with the issues at hand and how even a one word can change
the way some people look at the document and it’s meaning. My group looked a lot at how a lot of the
document had plans as to how to makes changes but was much less clear on what
needed to be changed.
